A.A., Athlete, US Track and Filed I am a three-time Olympic athlete for the United States in track and filed. In an effort to improve my training and health I decided to study acupuncture. As a student of acupuncture, I have know Dr. Lee since 2003. He has served as my teacher and supervisor in his role as Dean of Acupuncture. I learned a great deal from him especially since one of his areas of specialization while studying for his medical degree in China was sports medicine. Acupuncture has proven to be immensely helpful to myself and other elite athletes for sports injuries. Highly knowledgeable and skilled teachers like Dr. Lee are very rare and hard to come by. He is a treasure and I consider myself lucky to know him and to have learned from him. On a personal note, I have observed him to be extremely patient and kind, always wiling to help others.
K. K., Artist I started experiencing gastritis and heartburn or acid reflux when I was in my late 20s. I attribute this to spicy food, alcohol, coffee, cocaine, LSD and stress. I gave up these things one by one over the years but despite that fact, I continued to suffer from acid reflux which got worse over the years. I believe this was in large part due to the unbelievable stress of working at Apple Computer.
I had given up alcohol, etc. long ago and also no longer ate spicy food or drank coffee but I found myself eliminating different types of foods over a period of time till all I was left eating was beef, broccoli and bananas. I went to a gastroenterologist who told me that I had a hiatal hernia, part of the stomach lining coming up through esophagus but he had little advice on how to cure it. I tried ginger tea, Zantac and aloe vera but nothing could stop it.
In a moment of desperation, I tried colloidal silver as recommended by a health store clerk. I was already experiencing sexual dysfunction, inability to stay erect or ejaculate, to some extent before using the colloidal silver but the silver got mixed in my liver and spleen and made it worse. In a vain attempt to restore my vitality, I started using an herbal blend of yohimbe, tribulus, damiana, Korean ginseng, L- Arginine and cayenne. This restored the sex drive but I was always being interrupted in the middle of sex by dogs, neighbors, etc. and the buildup of testosterone would back up at that time and cause extreme pain and a bluish gray appearance to the face.
I stopped using colloidal silver and the herbal blend but the grayness and sexual dysfunction continued along with acid reflux and extremely painful testicles. I went to an osteopath who used a sort of IV solution to work out the silver but the going was slow and painful. It was recommended that I go to Dr. Lee and there I found relief. Now that I am using the herbal blend prescribed by Dr. Lee, the pain has gone away, no more acid reflux, no more sexual dysfunction and my skin color has returned to normal. I used to have irritable bowel syndrome along with prolapse which has also gone away. I have suffered from this horrible condition for several years and now I have hope that I can be cured.
Dr. Lee knew to heal my liver which was the basis for all the pain, dysfunction and silver toxicity. With diet recommendations, acupuncture treatments and the herbs, Dr. Lee has prescribed I am on my way to recovery. This is especially gratifying after feeling for years that there was no cure. Knowing there is a cure and seeing results has done much to uplift me emotionally and spiritually.
L.M.S, manager, a company of Computer Devices I am a patient of Dr. Lee's undergoing treatment for acute pain in both knees and left hip. My problems are a result of numerous football and other sports related injuries.
My results thus far with Dr. Lee have been extremely promising. No long do I have pain in my knees when I walk or stiffness and lower back pain due to tightness in my hips. In only a few short weeks, I feel much better and have more flexibility and dexterity than with the more traditional treatments.
Prior to seeing Dr. Lee I had been treated by numerous medical specialists. The usual prescribed treatment consisted of medication and either rest or light exercise. Nothing really relieved the pain and improved my condition, only covered up the pain to make everyday life tolerable.
Dr. Lee's acupuncture treatments have for the first time in years stopped the pain and have given me a renewed ability and flexibility that I thought was lost. I feel Dr. Lee is an exceptionally talented physician that offers true benefits to his patients.
S.S., Clinical Psychologist My experience as a patient of Dr. Lee's has been exceptional. I have been to many health practitioners and I have seldom had one in whom I feel more confident, and who was as attentive and caring, and also funny and pleasant to be with. Dr. Lee is clearly not only very competent, but also extremely committed to his patients, and has a kind, open heart as well. In addition to his medical competence, he also has deep wisdom, understanding the many aspects of healing and how to support a patient is the process, both medically and psychologically. I enjoyed his company so much.
R. K., Veteran I am an eighty one year old WW II Fighter Pilot, Viet Nam Veteran and had service in Korea. I have been interested in Acupuncture for approximate fifty years. It is a proven alternative to our "western" style of medicine which in many instances treats the "symptoms" rather than the cause(s) of a medical problem. We need to start using Acupuncture in conjunction with our western medicine
Dr. Lee is very dedicated to teaching as well as actively practicing Acupuncture, his professionalism is obvious when you observe his teaching methodology. His students are well qualified to practice their art upon completion of their studies.
J.A., retired I have see Dr. Lee ten times in the last eight weeks for acupuncture. He is treating me for acute pain in the tendons of my right leg. After an X-ray and MRI yielded little information about the cause of the pain, my doctor suggested pain management with injections. I preferred to try acupuncture first because it is less invasive. I have found Dr. Lee to be a very experienced and caring practitioner. Each time he sees me he carefully checks my progress and asks about any new pain. Because this is my first personal experience with acupuncture I have asked many questions which he fully answered. i am pleased with my progress as I am able to do more things now than in the last seven months and expect further movement.
A.K., student I am a patient of Dr. Lee. I was sent to the emergency room with a blood platelet count of 5000 (normal range 150,000-450,000) due to a suspected allergic reaction to a commonly used antibiotic to fight injection. Over the next several days, I was given three platelet transfusions followed by heavy doses of prednisone. Over the next 14 days, my blood platelet count dropped from 140,000 to 53,000 and the hematologist referred me to the oncologist. It was at this point that I decided to take this into my own hands and seek alternative treatment.
I began to see Dr. Lee and upon my first visit, Dr. Lee assured me that I was going to get well and that he would help to get me there. After my first treatment, Dr. Lee relieved all my stress and anxiety that I was carrying in my neck and shoulders. My edema went down, my circulation increased and by my third visit; my blood platelet count soared to 135,000. Over the last couple of weeks, my blood platelet count has remained fairly constant at about 105,000 which is a perfectly safe and healthy count to allow for a normal life.
Before going to Dr. Lee, I was in a hopeless state of confusion and unease. Dr. Lee's confidence in his knowledge and practice put me at ease within the first ten minutes of my treatment. This was my first experience with a health professional where I felt with knowledge of my illness and treatment plan, feeling confident that I was going to get well.
L.L.W, MD, China I have known Dr. Lee since 1996 while acting as his academic advisor. In that he was most intelligent, competent, always of a sunny demeanor, he has always been one of my favorite students. I enjoyed working with him and was constantly impressed by his mastery of the subject and fervor with which he worked for his researches. He demonstrated great skill in his endeavors adapting to unforeseen problems and was very good with people, his sense of humor and compassion was greatly missed after he moved to the U.S.
Dr. Lee conducted research on osteoporosis. This research was the first of its kind in China and the most thorough. In the realm of endocrine dysfunction which is a common yet complicated cause of osteoporosis estrogen levels decrease followed by an imbalance in PTH and CT which causes bone loss; in addition, other symptoms are gastric malabsorption and lowered immune function. And bone fractures associated with osteoporosis is an enemy to humankind, the high incidence of this disease is sparking the attention of the medical field. We prepared the initial details, research, study methods and measurements an entire year before undertaking the experiment in 1997.
Dr. Lee was industrious in composing the study proposal for this five year experiment. He was responsible for designing the treatment plan, treating the patients, managing the animal experiment, collecting the clinical data, completing statistical analysis, and keeping a closest contact with our cooperative research colleagues. The study was done with the cooperation of the Osteoporosis Department of Jiangsu Governmental/Gerontological Hospital and Shanghai Bone Biomedicine Research Institute.
In the study start values for blood and urine factors were taken, PTH (parthyroid hormone), CT(calcitonin), ALT(a liver function marker), BGP(bone Gla-Protien), U-Ca(calcium in urine), U-P(potassium in urine), U- HOP(a bone density marker) and estrogen. Dual Energy X-Rays, the most accurate technology existing for bone density testing were utilized to check the bone density in the femur and lumbar vertebrae of our subjects. Factors measured to confirm efficacy also included pain of the neck, wrist, low back, fatigue, libido and so on. Dr. Lee constructed a measurement scale that was able to take objective data. He also reconfigured the acupuncture point prescription to utilize only the most effective points for treatment.
Results were very optimistic. Blood tests demonstrated that acupuncture significantly improved estrogen level, the balance of PTH, CT and immune values such as IL-6 (interleukin – 6) and TNF (tumor necrosis factor). Symptoms related to Osteoporosis such as fatigue, pain decreased quickly and tremendously. DEXA showed an increase in bone density of Femur and Lumbar. Bone biodynamic tests by DEXA for rats also showed that the femur matrix was thicker and denser, a radioactive tracer proved the bone cell production was improved and had also sped up. Both strength and flexibility were tested with weight bearing tests on the femur. The research was very promising as it yielded results better proven and addressing more symptoms than that extrapolated by standard western treatment with drugs.
Dr Lee’s research earned him an invitation to the Beijing Health and Aging Conference of 2000. His research was presented to medical professionals from forty-three nations. His outstanding work in osteoporosis made this research become very well known, being featured on CCTV (Chinese Central Television) a major media outlet in China. The research attracted their attention and segments about our findings and treatments were aired nationwide in October of 2000. Dr Lee was also a founder and educator of the Osteoporosis Education Group functioning to educate the masses about osteoporosis. Dr. Lee is the second person to ever graduate with a BS, MS and PhD in Acupuncture in China. During his study in our medical college 1996-1999, he served as the vice-president and chief presiding officer of the University Postgraduate Association overseeing approximately 300 postgraduates for 3 years. He organized the largest Postgraduate Conference, in 1998 hosted by Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), an estimated 10 million Americans have osteoporosis and 18 million more have low bone mass, placing them at an increased risk for the disease. Osteoporosis is common among the elderly, but the disease can strike at any age. Therefore, it would be of greater advantage to America to have Dr. Lee serve in his full capacity utilizing his medical knowledge for those who suffer from osteoporosis.
